Spanning over 2,700 hectares, the Conti Vecchi Salt Works are home to hundreds of bird species, including the elegant pink flamingo, and offers a fascinating journey into Sardinia’s industrial past.
Founded over 90 years ago, the saltworks transport visitors back to the 1930s, where you can explore restored workshops, laboratories, and historical archives from what was once a visionary industrial hub.
The experience also unveils the story of the nearby village of Macchiareddu, known as the “salt community,” which grew around this pioneering project.
Tips:
For warm-weather tours, we recommend light, breathable clothing, comfortable walking shoes (avoid open-toe styles), and sun protection such as a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Don’t forget a refillable water bottle to stay cool and hydrated under the Sardinian sun.
